I’ve always loved walking through the neighborhoods of Los Angeles, especially with my dogs. But over the years, I noticed something troubling—trees were disappearing, leaving behind nothing but stumps. The shade that once lined the sidewalks was vanishing, and in the brutal summer heat, it felt cruel to walk the dogs on pavement that burned beneath their paws.
Still, it wasn’t until the wildfires of January 2025 that I knew I had to take action. Watching homes, communities, and wild spaces burn was heartbreaking. But what struck me most was how preventable some of the damage could have been. The landscapes around us—our yards, parks, and public spaces—could be designed to slow the spread of fire, not fuel it.
That’s when I realized that planting the right trees and fire-adaptive native plants could do more than restore lost shade—they could build resilience, protect our homes, and even save lives.
This realization led me to found Wildfire Resilient Landscapes (WRL)—a nonprofit dedicated to:
But knowledge alone isn’t enough—people need access to the right plants. That’s why I also launched the Wildfire Resilient Native Plants Nursery—a for-profit venture that grows and supplies fire-resistant, drought-tolerant native plants to homeowners, landscapers, and restoration projects.
Together, WRL and the nursery work toward a shared goal:
✅ Making communities safer through fire-smart landscaping
✅ Creating greener urban spaces with tree canopy expansion
✅ Restoring biodiversity by reintroducing native plants
This journey started with a few stumps and a simple idea: we can plant the future we want to live in.
Thank you for being part of this mission.
